So sorry to hear about your sudden loss. Our condolences go out to Nicole, Jean-Marc & Alex. John was a good friend to us. We spent many dinners and playing cards & Tock together. He was a great cook and enjoyed hosting his friends. When we arrived to Ottawa, he was kind in offering his home for us to stay while we waited to move into our new house. John and I worked together for 10 years on PMPD. We hunted, fished and made great memories with myself and family. The news of his passing has been heartbreaking, he was a great friend. I was lucky enough to spend many years hunting with John. We shared many laughs, stories, adventures and late nights out at the hunt camp. I will miss you telling your stories with my dad of your life experiences even if I had already heard them a couple times before. They were still so great. John was a generous caring man and boy could he cook up a great meal! I was always impressed with his knowledge of the outdoors and hunting skills.
He spoke so highly of his family, my sincere condolences to you. We will all miss you John but you will always have a place in our hearts. Your name suits you well, you really were the best.

John was my big brother. I will treasure my memories of our fishing trips when we were children. The rule was I could go fishing with him but I had to help portage the equipment. He would proceed to load up this tiny five year old with fishing rods, net, life jackets and minnow pail and send me up the hill. I didn’t mind because we would fish and talk for hours or sometimes just stare at the water and think. He taught me patience: you can’t catch a fish if you’re moving around a lot, understanding: fish don't like noise & will only bite if the conditions are favorable, respect: how to gently remove the hook & let the little ones go and acceptance because sometimes the fish just don’t bite. Patience, Understanding, Respect and Acceptance …not only great life lessons but the code he lived by.
I will miss him dearly.

It was with great sadness that we heard of Johns passing. It has affected us greatly. John was a good friend and fantastic neighbour. We had many a good time over the fence, through the fence and especially when we removed the fence. Christine and John shared many hours discussing gardening and how to improve their flowerbeds. We will miss John and may he continue his fishing and hunting adventures at his final destination. Good By John.

So long to my best buddy. We had the pleasure of working together and travelling around the world. We were also the best of friends enjoying getting together and telling tales. What a great story teller he was. We had the most awesome time going on our annual deer hunting trip for over 20 years now. It will never be the same. He was a very kind, generous, humorous and gentle person. He will be deeply missed. I will always cherish the great memories of my times with him. See you down the line Johnny Best.
