To Marty's family -- Please accept my sincere condolences on your profound loss. I first met Marty (and Jenie) when they visited CRA in Ottawa to consider making the move from Vancouver (about 30 years ago?). I worked with Marty a number of times over the years -- he was an innovative thinker, was very good to his staff, and a mentor and coach to many younger people. Great sense of humour, and a smile for everyone. He always spoke with pride about all of his family. And when he and I both worked downtown, I knew when it was spring because Marty finally would bring out his much loved Mustang (his parking spot was beside mine). I hope your many happy memories of times spent with Marty will bring some comfort to you.

We are very sorry to hear about Martin. We remember him from Pam's and Kaitlin's soccer days. We remember Martin leading the girls to many victorious games but what was perhaps more important was that the girls appeared to have a very enjoyable time that year. We wish the family all the very best going forward from this very sad time.

I am so sorry to hear this. Marty was a fantastic human being. I spent a long weekend with him (and other crazies) at a Bricklin meet in London, Ontario a few years ago. I have a video of him driving along the 401 in his car, in front of me and along with Jim Armstrong. If you want a copy (it's very short), just email me a return and I will email it to you.
My deepest condolences and warmest wishes at this time to all of you. He loved his family more than anything. He will be missed but will live forever in the hearts and minds of a lot of people whom he touched and influenced with his infectious passions.
Best Regards
Mike Paterson

I am still in shock over hearing of Martys passing. He was a frequent customer with good friend Bill Hume at Caps, a pub I owned in Vanier when he worked at at CRA. Taken way too soon. Will miss not seeing him at Metcalfe golf course in tournaments and golfing with Pete. My deepest condolences to his family. You will be missed my friend. I will never forget you and we’ll see you on the other side.

Marty accomplished a lot during his life despite leaving us at a young age. I have many fond memories of him. I will always remember that he was one of the first employees to welcome me into the old Assessment of Returns Directorate when I transferred in from the Appeals Branch. It was a pleasure working with him at the 400 Cumberland Street location. I extend my sincerest condolences to Marty’s entire family.

In recent years, Marty and I were able to reconnect after a long time apart.
We grew up as next door neighbours and best friends even before Elementary school and all the way into High School. Our childhood seemed somewhat magical. We played on the same soccer team, joined Cub Scouts (his dad Al was a leader), built forts in the nearby ravine, and ran around with our dogs just to mention a few things. Looking back on our childhood, we always reminisced that growing up in North Vancouver was kind of like growing up in one of those old TV sitcoms with idylic neighbourhoods, such as Mayberry RFD or Leave It to Beaver.
I only have the fondest memories of Marty... always an upstanding friend, good-natured, with a very high level of integrity...what a mix!
It was a blessing to rekindle our friendship after so many years.
I'm truly going to miss my good buddy Marty, a great man & friend gone way too soon. So very sad.
My deepest sympathies to Marty's daughters Kaitlyn and Kelsey, as well as his daughters out West, Kristin and Courtney, and the grandchildren. Also sister Vicki, brother Gary, Rick, and Dan.
I'm really going to miss you Marty. May you rest in peace my friend. Rob Gervan Maple Ridge BC

Marty (Em) will be so missed ... from letting me drive his Bricklin like shumacher at the golf course ( after a pretty solid golf game), to mentoring me on my career ... Em was one of a kind and definitely broke the mold ! One of the most compassionate , positive, zest for life individuals that I have been blessed to not only know, but to be super tight with! Words can not express how much I will miss our talks and his general advice on life . . . I know that he is having a pint with the dog (Pete/Piatro) my bro as I write this. Em became family to me after he retired ... and he will forever be in my heart . Words can not express my condolences to his loved ones , especially his two beloved daughters who he spoke so highly of Kaitlin and Kelsey. All my love and strength goes out to you . As em taught me ... “I know you like the back of my hand, chief where is the back of my hand” Ashley (Kate)
