Obituary of Ross Shortill
Ross Shortill, a handy-man in many ways, community minded individual, and fiddle player, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 6th, surrounded by his better-half Patricia Hill, daughter Tonya and son Rob.
A long time member of St. Andrew's United Church in Cumberland, volunteer Fire Department, Conservative Party and Navan Fair Association, passed away after 10 months battling pancreatic cancer. Ross was born March 14th 1939 at Grace Hospital in Guelph, was raised on farms outside of Georgetown, played in Hickory Falls as a child, enjoyed a one-room school house until grade 8 and walked uphill both ways to and from high school in Acton. Ross spent 34 years with the Federal Government working for the RCMP and then CSIS. During this time, he and Mary Lou (nee Carter) raised their family, Tonya, Gerry and Rob in Cumberland, a family centered community East of Ottawa.
