Obituary of John Arnott
John (Jack) Arnott, Major (Ret’d) Canadian Armed Forces
Born in Hamilton, Ontario on August 15, 1931, Jack passed away in Ottawa on Monday, November 23, 2020 in his 89th year with his beloved wife Monique Faubert at his side.
Jack was the proud father of Cam, Doug and Cathy in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia with his first wife Norma. He was loved by his grandchildren Michael-John (Reine) and Robert, and adored by his great-grandchildren Alexandre, Amélie and Arthur in Orleans, Ontario.
Jack was a good man and a dedicated husband to his wife Monique and a good friend to many. A great gift in his life was to be a great granddad. He loved his great grandchildren and they loved their “GG” as they affectionately called him, and will miss him very much.
He will be missed by his nieces Lynn (David) and Diane (Bob) with whom he maintained regular contacts over the years. He will also be missed by the Faubert family, many of them being not only family but friends.
Predeceased by his parents Thomson Arnott and Beatrice Bryant, his brother Don and his sister Doris.
Jack had a long career in the Canadian Armed Forces. He was proud of being a navy pilot and flew the Harvard, Firefly, Avenger, Tracker and Tudor. He served on the HMCS Bonaventure, HMCS Magnificent and HMCS Assiniboine. He flew the Tracker off of the "Bonnie" as the HMCS Bonaventure was nicknamed.
He was a man who felt important to stay in touch with his family and friends through telephone calls and emails and was expecting them to respond to his numerous communications. He was always taking and showing photographs of those he cared about to keep everyone in touch.
Jack was a courageous man facing serious health issues for a number of years after cancer surgery and open-heart surgery and finally had to surrender to cancer which took his life. Despite adverse medical conditions he always showed a brave face and learned to accept the fact that he could no longer drive and be independent to run errands, but he was able to maintain a quality of life to enjoy with his family.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Ottawa Heart Institute, Ottawa General Hospital, Ottawa Civic Hospital, and Montfort Hospital for their many years of care for Jack to live a long and quality life. A special thank you to Dr. Daniel Vincent of the Orleans Palliative Care and to the May Court Hospice for their care to ease the passing of Jack's life.
In accordance with his wishes there will be no Funeral Service. Donations can be made in his memory to the May Court Hospice of the Hospice Care Ottawa or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
