Jeannine Guertin

Obituary of Jeannine Guertin

A long time resident at St-Vincent’s Hospital, Jeannine Guertin (nee Bourgeois) passed away peacefully in her 74th year on June 12, 2020, more than 22 years after a brain aneurysm rupture. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. Beloved wife of 50 years to Pierre Guertin. Loving mother of Paul (Joannie), Anne (Michael), Andree and Philippe (Darrell). Grandmother to Elizabeth, Jessica, Katerine, Hayley and Savanna. She will be fondly remembered by her siblings John (Pauline), Louise (Hector), Maggie and Brian (Priscilla), her Guertin in-laws Gerard, Lyse, Raymond (Rose), Jacques (Cathy) and Mario and her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Dorothy Poirier and Ulric Bourgeois, her brother Armand (Donna) and her brother-in-law Jean (Maggie). We have many fond memories of Jeannine. She was a tremendous athlete who was known to be a great softball and broomball player. She enjoyed watching all sports. She was an avid fan of the Detroit Red Wings until the Ottawa Senators came to town and they became her team. She enjoyed going to the games with her sister Louise, even when the team wasn’t very good. She was also a passionate fan of baseball, particularly her Montreal Expos. She enjoyed spending time with her family, going camping and loved fishing. She could spend hours on the water without even a nibble. It was less about the catch and more about the peace and tranquility of the lake, except for those times when she got caught in a storm or lost track of time and had to find her way back in the dark or fog. She was generous with her time helping others, with painting, gardening or even doing their taxes. She was always there to lend a hand. To her granddaughters – while her illness did not allow her to participate in your lives and activities as she would have liked, she was very proud of you. She loved the visits and listened attentively to the stories of your antics and accomplishments. The family is grateful for the care and compassion that the 2 South staff at St-Vincent’s have demonstrated over the years. Thank you Georgette for caring for “Jin Jin” like a member of your own family. We will be forever grateful for your kindness. A heartfelt thank you to Matante Lou, who along with dad was a loving companion and caregiver to mom over the last 22 years. A celebration of life will be held at a later date when we can safely gather and celebrate Jeannine’s life together. Until then, spend time with family, enjoy some local strawberries (her favorite) or go fishing to honor her memory. In memoriam donations may be made to the Bruyere Foundation.
