Obituary of Gregor Moczko

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Gregor Moczko. He died peacefully at St. Louis Residence on May 19, 2020 in his 99th year. He was the beloved husband of the late Gertrude Moczko (née Godziek) and the dear father of Diane (John Cox) and Stan Moczko; loving Opa to Emily, Michael and Julie (Leo Vander Wouden). Predeceased by his parents Viktor and Agnes Moczko, sister Barbara, and brothers Jerzy and Antek. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews in Poland, as well as all others who have been touched by his love and generosity throughout his life. Gregor was born on January 18, 1922, in Łaziska Dolne, Silesia, Poland. Gregor survived injuries serving in the Second World War and was in the British Army until 1947. He was a Master Watchmaker and a respected businessman who had his own watch repair store in Katowice, Poland, then Gregor Watches in Montreal, and, finally, Gregor Jewellery in Windsor, Ontario, before retiring to Orleans, Ontario in 1999. Gregor took up golf at the age of 52, and it quickly became a lifelong passion. He especially enjoyed playing at Nationview Golf Course. He continued golfing until age 93. Gregor overcame many obstacles, and his life is a testament to his ability and strength to overcome adversity, while maintaining his positive attitude, love of life, and sense of humour. Gregor was a devoted husband and father who always put his family first. He was a very strong, decent, helpful person, who was admired and liked by all who met him. His big smile and legacy will live on forever in our hearts. Thank you to the caring 3rd floor staff at the St. Louis Residence and all the wonderful volunteers, including Alison, Anita, Patricia, and Eugene.
