Obituary of David Edward Scott
Passed away on Monday August 12, 2019 at the age of 92. Survived by his beloved wife Conni (nee Whiessiel) two days after their 56th wedding anniversary. Temporarily residing away from home, with Conni’s love and support, he was able to return home in September 2018. He recently suffered a fall requiring hospital treatment. Born on Friday, July 15, 1927, in Riceville, ON. Son of the late Lily E Peterson and D. Kenneth Scott. He is survived by his son David, his daughter Jennifer Melchiorre (Dan), his sisters Freda Heacock (late Harold) and Leita Stone (late Gene). Predeceased by his sister Reita Roberts (late Ron). He was the very proud and caring Grandpa of Alexandrea and Step-Grandpa to Rachel Moffa. Brother-in-law of Laurie Wilson (Lloyd) and Shirley Zanin (late Tony). An avid outdoorsman, a keen wildlife observer, an equestrian, a hunter, a skilled craftsman and a musher who raised and raced Siberian Huskies for over 35 years. A gentleman with a great sense of humour, meticulous with his records and committed to ensuring his projects were done right the first time. Following his retirement in 1992, after a 45 year career as an electrician with the E.B. Eddy Company and the Riverside Hospital, he began building dog sleds. Initially for his own use and then for others as his exacting standards for using only unblemished white ash and his workmanship became known. An ongoing interest in genealogy, begun long before on-line sources were available, led to hours interviewing family and friends, visiting graveyards, consulting family bibles and researching Archives Canada resulting in the Scott family tree now maintained by family members. Purchase of his 1st ATV in 1991 led to 26 years exploring trails in Larose Forest and the hills around Dacre. A modest man whose word was his bond. The family wishes to extend their thanks to all those who provided care and support over the last three years. Visitation from 11 a.m. -12 p.m. at the Heritage Funeral Complex 1250 Trim Rd., Orleans ON K4A 3P7 on Sunday August 18, 2019 with a memorial service at 12 p.m. Reception to follow. Private inurnment at Dale’s Cemetery Cumberland, Ontario.
