So sorry to hear that Mary has passed. II went to primary school with Rodney and have crossed paths only a couple of times in the last 45 years. Your folks walked up to me about 20 years ago in Sears st. Laurent. Mary says out of the blue " excuse me, but you sound like a school friend of my son Rodney's. Is your name Robin. We chatted for a good 20 minutes. She always had that SMILE to greet... even when we got up to something. The scolding we got from playing oh the cliffs in the Cumberland back yard. LOL My sympathy to Rod and family. Robin & Christine

I haven’t been in touch with you for a number of years due to various health reasons, but your Mom always made a point of staying in contact.
My sincere condolences on the passing of your mom who was a dear friend of mine for over 60 years. I was very fond of her and will treasure my memories.

Bruce, Rod, Pam, Jennifer and Peter, I loved your mum, Mary. I first met her and CAM as a young teenager at my parent's home ('Bus' and Dorothy Kennedy) in Cumberland. She talked to me and the next thing I knew I was playing tennis on the stone dust court at your home or loading skis into the back of your station wagon as she drove a car load (at least a couple of you and me) to Camp Fortune. Her kindness and energy made it happen then and began those adventures that continue in my life now. In more recent years, on Remembrance Day I would look for Mary at the Cumberland Cenotaph and happy to see her, we would update each other with family news. She would have me laughing immediately- her enthusiastic delight was contagious. Mary's love of life and generosity drew me in. Her friendliness and curiosity and her quick, genuine laughter will remain with me. I will miss her. Please accept my condolences.

Dear Rod, Bruce, Petey Jen and Pam
I hope I am not missing anybody. This Canada Day Weekend is a great time reflect on a quintessentially great Canadian woman who embodied all the values of what we believe to be Canadian. Mary’s quick sense of humor always resonated with honesty and disarmed all those around her.
Her curiosity and yearning for adventure rubbed off on all of you.
I believe i was about 7 years old when I first got pulled into Mary Smith’s orbit. We Gordons had recently returned from a 4 year posting in Japan. It was Mary and you boys who were our first and very fast friends. Mary and my mother, Sally, were kindred spirits. But it was Mary who helped me and all our family adjust to Canadian life. I was in awe of her then and I am deeply saddened by your loss. When my own Mum slipped into dementia in 2010 Mary welcomed us in her Cumberland home where a flood of the fondest memories swept over me and my Mum. Mary wanted to look after everybody she came upon and make them feel at home. Latley, She called me at least twice a year to keep tabs on Sally and I would call her to keep tabs on all of you. She really was Aunt Mary to me and my brothers and we all admired your Mum and your family tremendously. Please accept our condolences.

Mary, from our first hug to our last there was always something special about you that made people want to gravitate towards you. Your smile, your laughter, your great energy, sense of humor and all the love you gave to this world. We've known each other for a few years and wow how much have I learned on a professional and personal level with you. I thank you for trusting me and forgiving me during my learning curb in the Retirement sector.
I really enjoyed all of our conversations from sports to politics. While looking into your eyes one could see one with a great heart, beautiful soul, genuine, thoughtful, helpful, caring, compassionate and the list goes on. You've left this world a great message that will always be in our heart.
Mary I want to thank you for everything you've done for me and everyone around you. You will be missed by so many.
Lots of love,
Bruno
Wishing her family all the best and giving my most sincere sympathies.
