Obituary of Jean-Marie Blache
BLACHE, Jean-Marie (John) passed away peacefully on January 29, 2018 at the age of 87 (almost 88) at his home surrounded by his loving family. John is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years Micheline (née Beaupré) and his three girls, Diane (Denis Desjardins), Danielle, and Jocelyne (Ivan Garland). Much loved grandfather of Patrick (Marjorie), Stéphane (Natacha), Sophie (Chris), Roxanne, James (Sarah), and Liam. Loving great-grandfather to Brighten, Alice, Gabriel and Gwen. John began his career as a graphic designer in the RCAF, followed by a short stint at the RCMP, and culminated at the CBC where he created many set designs for a variety of shows. Among his many accomplishments, he is most proud of his logo for the Sabres Squadron at No. 1 Wing Air Div. in Metz, his design of the logo (1959-1964) for the Golden Hawks Aerobatic Team, and the PSAC logo (created in 1964), all of which still exist to this day. John was also an accomplished artist who sold many of his oil paintings at an art exhibition, but what he most enjoyed was gifting his creations to members of his family. He also relished recounting the time he beat a young Paul Anka at an amateur contest at the Glen Lea Club by balancing an adult-sized bicycle on his chin. A celebration of John’s life will be held this summer. Memorial donations may be made to the Ottawa Heart Institute and/or the Ottawa Cancer Foundation.
