Bob Zacharko was one of my very best professors at Carleton. He was approachable, always willing to listen and respect his students. He had a curiosity for life and certainly a sense of humour that gave him a real sense of humanity. I want to convey my true condolences to his immediate and extended family, although late, I am sure that you would want and appreciate that Bob was thought of today. He was one of the best!

My condolences to the family. I had the pleasure of "recording" Bob's Lectures for many years at Carleton. His wit, sense of humour, and depth of knowledge was certainly appreciated by all, especially his students. I never once saw him Lecture from prepared notes or a Textbook ! His stories, digressions, and passion for science was genuine, just like Bob. Peace to you Sir.

Dear Marilyn, Bobby & Sarah, Please know that you are in my thoughts & prayers in this most difficult of times for your family. Although I never had the privilege of knowing Bob, in reading the comments of friends and former students, I can see what an amazing man he was. It is with certainty that I believe he is now resting in the arms of God.

I have many fond memories of the 9 years with Bob both as my Master\'s thesis supervisor and Phd Supervisor. My success is because of the faith he had in me and the hard work he put in to my success.

To the Zacharko family. I am deeply sorry to have read of your loss in the paper. My thoughts and prayers go out to you during this difficult time. Dr. Zacharko, was my undergraduate professor for Biological Basis of Psychology. I found him to be one of the best professors I had during my time at Carleton. I was a more mature student returning to school after a very long time and was very nervous not knowing what to expect. He made the subject matter interesting. He was a dynamic prof in his lecture room and was so very helpful. I remember his class fondly. It was tough, but he made it fun. I ended up with an A- in this class. I remember during our final exam he would hover over his students. As he walked up and down our rows he came by me, looked over my exam, pointed to a question and said, "you know better than that." Just like that. I chuckled to my self as he walked up the row. I couldn't have asked for a better professor. He was very funny the way he would move up and down the room he lectured in, sit beside you, sit behind you. The energy he had was just amazing. And the passion for the subject matter he taught was evident. He made school fun and informative for me. When I got that A- in his class I knew I had done a great job and learned lots. It was a well deserved mark and I knew so much more about neuroscience because of him. Truly, I was shocked and saddened to read of his passing in the paper and I just wanted to reach out to say I am so sorry for your loss. Siobhan Brennan Marciniak

So many great "Bob" memories and stories, he was always interested and interesting. Our boys were in awe of him and took his advice to heart and he, in turn, always enjoyed making them happy. Who would have thought a pet rat was so easy to come by, or that it would work out so well! Thanks Bob ! It is some comfort to know he is at peace, free of illness and limitations, likely watching over Marilyn, Bobby and Sarah with love, and an ongoing commentary as the mood strikes him. Thinking of you three as well, sending our condolences and love, looking forward to seeing you soon ! xo

I did not know Bob, but I do know how hard Marilyn and the kids worked to make him comfortable and feel loved as his health deteriorated. He must have been a wonderful human being to have generated so much love. You should feel so comforted by the fact that you made his life as joyful as possible despite how difficult it must have been. I am praying very hard for all of you. God bless.

Although I did not know him, I understand that he was a man of great intellect, with the kindness of a man with a warm heart. I know you will miss his presence and guidance. To Marilyn, Bobby and Sarah: a life journey begins with one breath and small steps to greater being. During that life a person leaves a mark on whomever they meet - especially those they love. Taking the last breath is a natural step toward a greater state of being. You carry your husband/your father within you - in your heart and in your memories. Feel joy and be at peace knowing he will always be there for you! Thinking of you, Helene
