Obituary of Rajam Hariharasankaran
Rajam Hariharasankaran
10-07-1926 to 19-06-2017
It is with deep sadness that we announce the demise of Mrs. Rajam Hariharasankaran, aged 90 years, in Ottawa General Hospital on June 19, 2017 around 10:30 PM. She is painfully missed with enormous affection and love by…. her posthumous husband Hariharasankaran and her three children, only living son Vaidyanathan and her late lovely daughters Seetha and Kamala. Rajam, stood as the matriarchal rock of the family, with the nucleus of her family expanded to include many other near and dear ones:..her late brothers Chellappa, Gangadharan, Narayanan and her only loving and living brother Madhavan and his wife Sarasa, her late sister Sakunthala and her living husband Srinivasan, daughter-in-law ChandraPrabha, sons-in-law Nagarajan and Premkumar, sweet granddaughters Shailaja and husband Sharad, Rajni and husband Raj, Rekha and husband Raj, grandsons Ashok and wife Nirupama, Vinayak, Sammy and his wife Sarah, Harigopal and his partner Lauren. great grand daughters Rasi, Soukshmya, Pratyksha, Vyatiba and great grandsons Arjun, Sunshrey and the most recent cute baby boy Sterling and many other endearing members of her extended family and friends, who all contributed immensely to the pleasures of her long cheerful life. Rajam, lovingly called Delhi Amma due to her long stay in the capital city Delhi of India, will always be remembered for her passion for cooking typical South Indian vegetarian dishes, sewing and knitting various garments for the little ones in the family, watching old and new Bollywood movies, soap operas and many sporting events in Cricket, Tennis, Ice Hockey, Indian Kabaddi etc. Until the last days of her life, she tried to be as independent as possible, as tidy as can be and felt very uncomfortable that she could not stand on her own without calling for help. However, her sharp memory and culinary tastes for Indian delicacies never faded, and despite the aging years, she wanted to pamper different folks with different strokes at South Indian style cooking. Her longevity with incredible skin texture may seem unexplainable, given that she only embraced a strict South Indian vegetarian diet throughout her life, without entertaining fish, eggs. alcohol and other so-called products of nutrition. Rajam’s family would like to acknowledge the tremendous effort expended by all the medical professionals and personnel support workers in the Ottawa region and elsewhere including nurses and support staff at both Montfort and General, who tended to her with loving care, compassion and excellent treatment during her visits to the hospital and providing homecare, when required. As her gratitude to these great institutions and fine personnel, she would very much appreciate donations to these organizations in lieu of flowers.
