My condolences to the family of Helen Noel. I never knew Helen. It was through my wife who worked with her at GAC that I heard the sad news of her passing. She was according to my wife and very very nice person. Some examples are when she took my wife Ritva to buy our gas fireplace which has been a real great thing for us over the years. I'm grateful. Helen has been extremely helpful towards my wife at work in more ways than I can say. It is nice to know she was a very kind and thoughtful person towards the people she came in contact with.

It is with heartfelt sadness that I write this note. Helen and I worked together and became great friends. I can still hear her laughter...it was contagious. Many people come into our lives...but few stay in our heart. It was an honor to have known her and share many wonderful memories. She loved life to the fullest...and had a zest about her like no other. She was kind, loving, compassionate, helpful, considerate, and honest soul. She always...always put everyone’s needs ahead of her own. She was a shining star and Angel on this earth. I am devastated her grandchildren will grow up without her warm and loving presence around them. I am truly saddened we did not keep in touch when I retired many years ago. We had vowed to do so. For that, I will always be regretful. She made me, as well as many others, a better person by knowing her. I will always miss her in my heart...but thankful she was my friend. Helen was the ‘best of the best’ Lady I have ever known...and all those that knew her will dearly miss her.
I was deeply saddened I was unable to attend her service, meet her family, and pay my respect. I send my sincere condolences to all her Family...a devastating loss of a wonderful Daughter, Sister, Mother, and Grandmother.

Helen, quel choc ce fut pour moi d'apprendre ton depart ce matin. Tu as su prendre tant soin des gens qui t'entouraient. Tu as toujours donné le meilleur de toi-meme. J'ai apellé ton numéro au travail pour entendre ta voix ce matin. Je n'en reviens tout simplement pas. Je suis triste de ne pas avoir pris de tes nouvelles dans les dernieres semaines. Mais je sais que maintenant, tu te repose. Ce n'étais pas facile mais tu trouvais toujours la force de continuer. Sois en paix avec ton parcours sans faille. Tu vas tellement me manquer. Helen and I worked together from the creation of Y2K Coordination Secretariat until the program ended. The times were challenging, but Helen was the anchor that brought everyone together as a single unit. Her knowledge of the department and her many contacts was instrumental in the success of the project. Helen always had a positive outlook on all we did and her enthusiasm touched all those she worked with. Her smile and willingness was contagious which rubbed off on all the staff. It is a tremendous loss to the Public Service and of course to her family and friends. Our sincerest condolences and sympathy go out to her family and friends. We have all lost a family member, a friend, a colleague. We are at the same time fortunate that we have many wonderful memories to hold forever.

I feel at a loss for words. This is beyond belief and heartbreaking. I truly am having a hard time coming to terms with Helen's sudden passing. Our paths crossed for many years at Foreign Affairs but just this past year we became colleagues. I got the pleasure, and privilege, of working closely with her. She became my sounding board and a friend. She will be greatly missed by everyone she touched!!

I worked with Helen many years ago, at 111 Sussex (DFAIT) and I ran into her again in September. This comes as a complete shock to me. Helen was a very kind and considerate colleague. I really enjoyed working with her as did everyone else who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

I had only been working with Helen since August, but I knew her by her reputation as a stellar individual and extraordinary colleague, as she established herself as a bit of a legend around here. She was the first to greet me every morning and I regularly brought her pastries from a nearby cafe. In exchange she provided many smart-ass comments and good-natured ribbings my way! My last interaction with her was giving her a slice of cheesecake while she made fun of my interest in wanting to retire to Pitcairn Island! That is how I will remember her.

I worked in Global Affairs, then called Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade from 2008 till 2010. It was my first job as a Public Servant and my first one as an administrative assistant. Helen came to greet me as soon as I started and was always happy and ready to help in whatever problem I could encounter. At the time of the bus strike, she came several times (when I could not drive) all the way from Kemptville to my home on Richmond and Pinecrest to take me to work and then take me back home.
I learned that Helen went many times out of her way to help people in difficult situations. She was a marvellous, generous person.
I will always remember her.

My sincerest condolences to Helen's family. Helen was a dear colleague. When we were in the same division for 10+ years, without fail, Helen would come to my office every morning to say hello, chat and share laughter. Even when she moved away, we kept in touch. Her sudden passing was a shock. Just a week prior, we met and agreed that we would "do lunch together". And the lunch would likely be at a Sushi restaurant. She loved the Sushi place on Montreal Road. Helen also proudly sent me a picture of her beautiful grandchildren that week. I never imagined she would be gone so soon. I had always thought we would all grow old together, and that Kathy Couturier, Monique Winter, and I would hear wonderful stories about her parents, son, daughter, and grandchildren for many, many years to come. Rest in peace, Helen. I know that you are now in a better place as an angel looking over your family. You will forever be in my heart.
