My sincere condolences to the Bellemare family. M Bellemare was my art teacher the first year he taught at Nepean High school. He was an inspiration to the class, allowing us-some years ago- to express ourselves but within the curriculum. I was privileged to be taught by him.

Je suis désolé d'avoir appris de la mort d'Eugene aujourd'hui. Je demeure à Kingston et je n'ai pas su avant cette date. Bonjour,
J'ai appris avec tristesse du décès de mon ex-colleague parlementaire et ami Eugène Bellemare. Nous sommes élus tous les deux en 1988 et j'ai des très beaux souvenirs de notre expérience ensemble à la Chambres des communs. Artist aspirant moi-même, j'étais toujours impressionné - et un peu jaloux - de son talent comme peintre et artiste et de sa capacité de produire des caricatures - même pendant la période des questions! J'ai acheté son premier livre de caricatures et je suis très fier de celle qu'il a fait de moi.
A Michel et Nathalie, et à toutes la famille, je vous offre mes plus sincères condoléances.

We recently held a 50th reunion for our graduating class which Mr. Bellemare was planning to attend. We were so sorry when ill health prevented him from coming. So many of us have fond memories of his days teaching at Nepean High School and we all feel his loss.

It was a great privilege for me to serve in Parliament with Eugene from 1988 to 2004,. He was an excellent MP, a true and loyal friend, and a great colleague. He was a strong constituency MP who could be counted upon to know what his constituents were thinking, and always showed good judgment in working on their behalf. A patient man with a sense of humour, he will certainly be remembered for his caricatures of MPs, that he sketched and then published as a collection,
None of us who served with Eugene have anything but fondness for him.

Lou spent a number of years working with Eugene and the riding association. I remember campaigning with him, visiting senior centers and riding in a parade. He had a perpetual smile and loved meeting people. Our sincerest condolences to his children and extended families.

Eugène was a very fine man and a true gentleman. I enjoyed working with him on our condominium board of directors. We loved going to the National Gallery together. He was missed when he moved to the retirement residence. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Eugene Bellemare. He was a man of many talents and great values.
I first encountered him as my art teacher at Nepean High School, back in the 1960's and remember learning about the silk screen process of producing election signs under his toutalage. In later years I opened a flower shop at the Beacon Hill Shopping Centre and Eugene and his wife Roberte became regular customers.
As a councillor in the city of Gloucester, he was there, although not my ward, to help me deal with issues that concerned me. He went out of his way to make sure that I had my issues resolved.
I thought it was rather ironic that he had been my art teacher in high school (and a damned good one!). but he also attended workshops and classes that I offered.
Eugene Bellemare was one of the best people I have ever associated with.
My sincere sympathy to his family for their loss of such a great person.

M. Bellemare was an accessible MP which is how I knew him
I recall one occasion I had an “emergency” that required his assistance.
I sent an e-mail. Instead of the usual “assistant’s call,” he called me. He had a sense of service. Something all too lacking today.

Sympathies à la famille Bellemare. J'ai connu Eugène Bellemare comme citoyen et comme bibliothècaire à la Bibliothèque du Parlement. Affable, toujours souriant, mon député, comme je l'appellais, me reconnaissait tout le temps...il avait une mémoire des visages et des noms incroyable. Un grand politicien, un homme vrai, dévoué. Le Seigneur l'accueille certainement à bras ouverts et lui accorde un bonheur éternel.
