I'll never forget when I first saw Donna.
She visited our house because she was about to take care of it via her Home Tenders business.
I opened the front door and there she was - a dark-haired, tanned and toned beauty...
And the energy and graciousness about her both drew me in and astonished me. I had no idea.
I had spoken to Donna on the phone, but I had never seen her. Now I knew the whole package...
But more was to come... We would move beyond client and become friends, as she did with so many people she met. Donna opened her heart and her arms and she made room for so many. But when you were with her - in person or on paper - she was yours, and you knew it.
So our friendship developed via email and text and visits...
And eventually I moved from Ottawa back to the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, and we met and caught up and shared life and ideas and philosophies.
Each time I was struck by that colourful and sincere energy I felt the very first time.
And each time, I felt thankful to know her.
Donna was always so willing to do more, to be more, to see more, to know more, to discover more, to live more... I loved that spirit about her that complex weave... the Donna fabric.
It drew me to her, and because we share carpe diem, perhaps her to me.
She and John did their best to own each day, right to the final months and weeks and days, and I admire that.
And that is why I am so quietly devastated that Donna died.
I grieve for Donna and the life she wanted to live with John, and I grieve for the loss of Donna in my life.
But she is here, with us, in inspiration and in support and encouragement, ever smiling, ever radiating.
I miss you Donna...
